Admissions

Undergraduate Program

1.   Documents required from the applicant for admission: a photocopy of high school diploma; official high school transcript (All documents written in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by a copy of original document and a notarized English translation); an autobiography/statement of purpose in Chinese (more than 1000 words).

2.   Application documents will be made open to faculty of the Department for evaluation.

3.   The Admission Committee will conduct the first round of review for admission, making preliminary evaluations and proposing the list of potential advisors.

4.   After an advisor is identified, the advisor or members of the Admission Committee will conduct an oral exam/interview with the applicant. This interview may be conducted by telephone in special circumstances.

5.   Each faculty member may only advise one international undergraduate student in any given academic year.

6.   All faculty members of the Department will be informed of the admission decisions.

7.   The implementation of this regulation is approved by the Departmental Faculty Meeting. Any amendment need also be approved by such a meeting.

 

Master Program

1.   Documents required from the applicant for admission: photocopies of diplomas earned from each post-secondary institution attended; official transcripts from each post-secondary institution attended (All documents written in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by a copy of original document and a notarized English translation); a research proposal and a sample of academic writing, both in Chinese.

2.   Application documents will be made open to faculty of the Department for evaluation.

3.   The Admission Committee will conduct the first round of review for admission, making preliminary evaluations and proposing a list of potential advisors.

4.   After an advisor is identified, the advisor will conduct an oral exam/interview with the applicant. This interview may be conducted by telephone in special circumstances.

5.   Each faculty member may only advise one international M.A. student in any given academic year.

6.   All faculty members of the Department will be informed of the admission decisions.

7.   The implementation of this regulation is approved by the Departmental Faculty Meeting. Any amendment need also be approved by such a meeting.

 

Doctoral Program

1.   Documents required from the applicant for admission: photocopies of diplomas earned from each post-secondary institution attended; official transcripts from each post-secondary institution attended (All documents written in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by a copy of original document and a notarized English translation); M.A. thesis (if not written in Chinese, two chapters must be translated into Chinese, or provide two academic papers in Chinese as a replacement); a research proposal in Chinese

2.   The Admission Committee will, based on the research area of the applicant, recommend two to three faculty members to form a special committee to conduct the first round review.

3.   This special committee will review application documents. Those applicants who have passed the first round review will have a full time faculty member of the Department as his/her advisor.

4.   The advisor will conduct an oral exam/interview with the applicant. This interview may be conducted by telephone in special circumstances.

5.   The list of applicants who have passed the oral exam/interview will be sent to the meeting of Departmental Faculty Meeting for admission decisions.

6.   Each faculty member may only advise one international Ph.D. student in any given academic year.

7.   The implementation of this regulation is approved by the Departmental Faculty Meeting. Any amendment need also be approved by such a meeting.
